„SWISH“: Garantiert! Swish-effect: guaranteed

In basketball, a “swish” refers to a shot where the ball passes cleanly through the hoop without touching the rim or backboard – a perfect shot that glides straight through the net with no rattle or contact. The distinctive sound of a swish is the result of various physical factors: net vibrations, air displacement, material properties, as well as the ball’s speed and rotation. The one physical factor we were able to influence in the de sign of the URBN HOOP ® is the material composition. With URBN HOOP ® , the ball does not primarily come into con tact with the net yarn when passing through, but rather with the knot and connector elements that extend into the net area. These elements are made from high-strength plastic, and their specific geometry plays a key role in creating the swish effect. This me ans the outer surface of the ball touches a material that is harder than the ball itself – enhancing the acoustic signature of a swish. As a result, even a light touch on the connector elements pro duces a clearly audible swish effect – making that “perfect shot” more perceptible, even if the ball doesn’t pass through completely cleanly. It‘s also worth noting: the swish sound can vary depending on the type of basketball used, as surface textures differ from ball to ball.

Der Begriff „Swish“ im Basketball bezieht sich auf einen Korb wurf, bei dem der Ball ohne den Kontakt mit dem Ring oder dem Hinterbrett direkt durch das Netz geht. Ein Swish ist also ein perfekter Treffer, bei dem der Ball sauber durch das Netz gleitet, ohne dass es zu einem Klappern oder Berühren von Ring oder Hinterbrett kommt. Das Geräusch, das bei einem Swish-Wurf entsteht, ist das Er gebnis verschiedener physikalischer Faktoren, darunter Netz schwingungen, Luftverdrängung, Materialbeschaffenheit sowie Geschwindigkeit und Rotation des Balls. Den physikalischen Faktor, welchen wir bei der Konstrukti on beeinflussen konnten, um den Swish-Effekt beim URBN HOOP ® zu gewährleisten, ist die Materialbeschaffenheit. Im Fall des URBN HOOP ® kommt der Ball beim Passieren des Netzes primär nicht mit dem Netzgarn in Kontakt, sondern mit den in das Netz hineinragenden Knoten- und Verschraubungs verbindungselementen. Hierbei spielt nicht nur die Materialfes tigkeit, sondern auch die spezifische Geometrie des Kunststoff verbinders eine entscheidende Rolle für den Swish-Effekt. Die äußere Schicht des Balls berührt somit ein Material mit höherer Festigkeit im Vergleich zum Ball selbst. Diese Kombination führt zu einem besonders ausgeprägten Swish-Effekt, der bereits deutlich wahrnehmbar ist, wenn der Ball die Verbindungsknoten nur leicht berührt. Der „perfekte Treffer“ ist beim URBN HOOP ® nicht mehr zwingend nötig. Es ist außerdem erwähnenswert, dass das Swish-Geräusch je nach dem verwendeten Ball unterschiedlich ausfallen kann, da die Oberflächenbeschaffenheit der Bälle variiert.
