need to take on a pioneering role to create and retain resilient habitats in a climate-compatible and climate-adapted way. Alongside the environ mental impact of climate change, its in fl uence on society is becoming increasingly clear. Climate justice is an urgent task – in our moderate lati tudes too. The quality of open spaces in cities and rural areas as regards sustainability, value, resource conservation and biodiversity is of par ticular importance in the context of construction. This calls for a joint commitment by planners, municipalities, developers and contractors to preserve our environment and preserve our open spaces. Moreover, the new category ‘climate adaptation’ of the German Landscape Architec ture Award is an indication of its signi fi cance. And the bulk of work submitted shows that the topic is taken for granted in most projects. This is what we should build on and how we should strategi cally think into the future. A big thank you goes to all the colleagues who submitted their work and to the members of the jury who selected the awarded projects in an intense process. Without our sponsors, some of whom have supported us for years, it would not have been possible for the bdla to hold this competition, to publish its results and hold an awards ceremony to celebrate this with many colleagues. And so we take this opportunity to thank the fi rms Bruns-P fl anzen-Export GmbH & Co.KG, ComputerWorks GmbH, Polytan GmbH, Rinn Beton- und Naturstein GmbH & Co.KG, Runge GmbH & Co.KG, smb Seilspielgeräte Collective strength

GmbH Berlin in Hoppegarten and Zeppelin Bau maschinen GmbH as well as the Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau BGL, NürnbergMesse/GaLaBau and the GdW Bundes verband deutscher Wohnungs- und Immobilienun ternehmen for their support. Thanks to the joint effort of all those involved, the competition for the German Landscape Architecture Award has once again succeeded in becoming an exceptional pro fessional event of 2021 that has a strong impact reaching far beyond the landscape community.
