Von den Wiesen wird nur ein Teil gemäht. Große Bereiche wachsen als naturnahe Blühwiesen. Für Insekten ist der Westpark ein Paradies. Only a part of the meadow is mown. Large areas are left to grow as near-natural fl ower meadows, making West Park a paradise for insects.

is continuously progressing. It meant that each construction phase was brought up to current standards. This also applies to the design of the playgrounds. As West Park comprised a total of ten construction phases, the designers were able to take a step back at several points, check their work and effectively learn from themselves. The success of the park comes down to this continu ous gain of knowledge. Lohaus Carl Köhlmos’ involvement in the project continued for over such a long period of time that, unlike in other projects, maintenance, management and adaptation became a continu ous and natural part of their work, albeit one that extended beyond the current fee scales. Off the

scale is what Irene Lohaus calls it. West Park shows that the linear planning process of the of fi - cial scale of fees does not always re fl ect real life. The reality of planning is often more complex and requires a lot of fl exibility. The team seized the opportunity to adopt agile work processes. This design method promises to deliver great sustainability. Working with scenarios, consulta tion, adaptation and fl exible processes makes it possible to respond to problems and wishes, and ultimately contribute to the project’s acceptance. This is evident at every visit to West Park. Its feel good and fun factor is immense. And, as an aside, its development process provides an important impetus to landscape architecture.
