Margot Käßmann

Margot Käßmann (Jg. 1958) studierte Theologie in Tü bingen, Edinburgh, Göttingen und Marburg. 1985 wurde sie ordiniert und schloss 1989 ihre Promotion an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum ab. Nach ihrer Tätigkeit als Pfarrerin und später Gene ralsekretärin des Deutschen Evangelischen Kirchentages war die vierfache Mutter von 1999 bis 2010 Landes bischö fi n der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Landeskirche Hannovers. 2002 erhielt sie die Ehrendoktorwürde der Universität Hannover. 2009/2010 war sie Vorsitzen de des Rates der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD). Ab August bis Dezember 2010 nahm sie eine Gastprofessur an der Emory-Universität in Atlanta (USA) wahr. In der Zeit von Januar 2011 bis März 2012 unter richtete und forschte sie als Gastprofessorin für Ökume ne und Sozialethik an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Max Imdahl-Gastprofessur). Von April 2012 bis Juni 2018 war sie als Botschafterin des Rates der EKD für das Reformationsjubiläum 2017 tätig. Seit Juli 2018 ist Margot Käßmann im Ruhestand und widmet sich vor allem dem Schreiben von Büchern. Daneben engagiert sie sich in ausgewählten Projekten wie etwa dem internationalen Kinderhilfswerk terre des hommes oder dem sozialen Straßenmagazin Asphalt. of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany. Between August and December 2010, she held a visit ing professorship at Emroy University in Atlanta (USA). She taught and conducted research between January 2011 and March 2012 during a visiting professorship of ecumenism and social ethics at the Ruhr University Bochum (Max Imdahl Visiting Professorship). From April 2012 to June 2018, she was ambassador of the Coun cil of the Evangelical Church for the anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. Margot Käßmann retired in 2018 and now focuses mainly on writing books. She is also involved in selected projects such as the international charity for children terre des hommes or the street magazine Asphalt.
